What are the values that we hold most dear in our church?
That was the questioned posed to some 25 church folk at the Congregational Meeting on Oct. 27. Building on our first meeting in Sept, (Church Reflective History) we discussed what we considered the “Core Values” of our church.
Following are the 5 Core Values and 2 Aspirational Values, listed in terms of importance.
OUR CORE VALUES
We value Worship – as communal, coming together to be inspired and rejuvenated to go forth and spread the Good News.
1 Corinthians 14:26
We value Community – because it is our primary mission field where we take stands on social justice and peace issues and reach out to the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of our community.
Philippians 2: 1-5
We value Preaching and Teaching – as they both impart knowledge of our faith and inspire people to live engaged, in faith filled lives.
Romans 2: 21
We value Communication – because our church must effectively communicate to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Mark 4: 10-12
We value Music – because music in our church motivates, inspires, sooths, brings joy, touches our hearts and allows our souls to be in communication with God.
OUR ASPIRATIONAL VALUES
We aspire to welcome Children and Young Families – to share the Good News of God’s love and to expand our church community so that God’s work can continue from one generation to the next. Luke 18: 15-17
We aspire to Reach the Un-churched – because we covenant to act out our faith in works of love toward those seeking God’s way. 1 Corinthians:9
The Vision Team will now study these values and use the findings as the basis for writing a Mission Statement.
