Next Sunday is Pentecost. The scripture lesson includes the phrase “Spirit of truth.” John 16:13: When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth… This phrase seems to have some center of gravity around it. Let’s see what comes from it…

We Witness
…there is a kind of eternity in that moment that makes it shimmer with significance. A kind of spiritual conspiracy between the mystery that surrounds us, and the beating of our hearts.
Forgive and Remember
In the normal order of things, power follows strength. But in the case of forgiveness, it is not the aggressor who has the power. In the case of forgiveness, it is the person who has been wronged — the vulnerable person, the person who has been hurt — who is in the position of power.
An Easter Meditation
In our contemporary world, we are told that fact equals truth. But, if you will forgive me, this is a fairly recent assumption that comes to us from the Enlightenment and the development of the scientific method. For the vast majority of human history, truth was not communicated as fact.
It was communicated as metaphor.
